Following the resignation of Malam Zubairu Massu, who defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party, the Kano State House of Assembly elected Alhaji Kabiru Dashi (APC-Kiru) as deputy speaker (NNPP).
According to NAN, Dashi was elected after being nominated by Mr Sale Marke (APC-Dawakin-Tofa) in plenary on Monday.
Mr Nuhu Achika (APC-Wudil) seconded the nomination, and the lawmakers confirmed his election as the new deputy speaker.
At a plenary presided over by Speaker Hamisu Chidari, Dashi was immediately sworn in by the director of house legal matters, Malam Nasidi Aliyu.

Chidari congratulated Dashi on his election and promised him the support of the entire house.
In his acceptance speech, Dashi thanked the house for recognising him as deserving of the new position.
