Five refineries suspected of producing and distributing adulterated fuel across Nigerian states have been discovered and destroyed.
The illegal refineries were reportedly discovered in Delta State’s Delta South Local Government Area.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, stormed and dislodged the reported refineries in an operation led by the Commandant General’s Special Anti-Vandal Monitoring Unit (SAVMU).
The security agency was said to have received information about the nefarious activities of vandals and oil thieves operating a large camp and acted quickly.

During the operation, two (2) suspects were apprehended, while other collaborators remained at large, according to reports.
According to an intelligence report made available to journalists on Monday, the illegal refineries are owned by three people: one woman and two other men.
The alleged owners, it is understood, have been apprehended and are currently in the custody of the NSCDC, where they are providing information to aid in the investigation.
The Squad Commander, DCC Brah Umoru Samson, assured Nigerians that the SAVMU will not tolerate any act of economic sabotage, and warned all illegal operators to engage in legitimate business that will not break the law or jeopardize the safety of the country’s Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.
When the investigations into their operations are completed, DCC Samson assured that the perpetrators will be prosecuted according to the law.
He emphasized that the Squad will conduct a full manhunt for those still on the loose.
According to him, the illegal refineries and other equipment used in the illegal business have been destroyed, and a thorough investigation will be conducted to identify and prosecute any other criminals linked to the crime.
