An investigation has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari has signed 19 of the 131 Senate bills passed in the last three years.
On June 10, the upper chamber, which was inaugurated on June 11, 2019, will reach its three-year mark. The Senate introduced 976 bills from its inception until March 23, 2022, according to a document seen by our correspondent in Abuja.
Approximately 27 of the 976 bills introduced on the Senate floor during this time were sponsored by the executive branch, while the rest were introduced by members.
Executive Bills, Member’s Bills, and Private Bills are the three types of bills, according to Senate Standing Orders 2015 (as amended) order 76 (a, b, and c).
Aside from the Appropriation Bills for 2020, 2021, and 2022, the Executive has also sponsored the Finance Bill 2019 (Nigeria Tax and Fiscal Law), which was introduced on November 5, 2019, and passed on November 21, 2019.
